Flapping Around

In preparation for our arts week project we have been practicing our fantastic sketching.

We first tried to draw a fantail with no picture and no help and then Miss Stuhlmann talked us through each step and we had a picture to help us visualize the fantail.

We did so well!!!

Check out our awesome fantails.

Our Wonderful Time at the Buddhist Temple

On Wednesday we had the amazing opportunity to go visit the Buddhist temple near botany. We were taken on a tour through the temple and were instructed on the values of the people who live there. We also got to practice our calligraphy and the police came to talk to us about how they help our community. It was such a fantastic experience and I know we all learnt a lot!

Here are some pictures from the tour:

Super Awesome Skateboard Lunch Demo

Wow!

The amazing team from Young Guns Skate School came to visit us at lunch time and gave a fantastic performance.

They demonstrated heaps of flips, slides and other cool tricks AND they even went around on the skateboards and high-fived us.

I don't know about you, but that made me want to learn to skate too!

Young Guns Skate School are looking for enthusiastic students who want to learn skateboard tricks at Sunnyhills after school on Fridays. What an awesome opportunity!

Well that's just PLANE fun!

This week room 6 has been exploring measurement of time and geometry in the form of paper planes. Our goal was to see if we could keep our planes in the air for 30 seconds!

First we researched what makes a plane stay in the air. Then we utilised our origami skills to create paper planes and test trialed them to see how long they would stay in the air.

Next we went back to the drawing board and tried to figure out how we could improve the flight of our planes. This lead to new designs and features on the planes.

Then we did some more research on planes to see if we could apply this to our paper planes.

We tested our second design (concept) and evaluated the flight.

Then the time came for us to create our third and final plane. This was the plane that would be used in our paper plane competition.

Congratulations to Carter who's plane stayed in the air the longest! (8.49 seconds). We didn't make it to 30 seconds but we shot for the moon and landed within the stars!

Well done to everyone in room 6 who put a lot of effort into making awesome planes.
